Acoustic Systems Resonators - Jeff B. - Texas - April, 2007
When we talked a couple of weeks ago about the problems I was having with my listening room - big, nasty, measurable problems due to the peculiar layout - Darren assured me that the resonators would change the whole sonic picture.
Even after talking to him and carefully reading the reviews I was past skeptical since the science behind these gizmos made no sense to me.
The science, such as it is, still makes no sense to me. After having these things in for about a week and a half, though, I can tell you that there has been a huge change for the better in what I am hearing from this system.
Bass has tightened up considerably. Highs are more extended. There is more air around the notes. Attack and decay are greatly improved. The typical stuff that we all want and describe in typical audiophile language is there now, and the glaring problems of the room have largely vanished. Yet there is something else going on, too: the music just sounds a lot more like music and, for some reason, the room itself is a lot more comfortable to be in with or without the music playing.
These tiny bowls have greatly improved my environment. Things feel better when they are unobtusively standing in their spots and doing their thing, and I will not remove them for love or money.
The next question is how many more of the things I can afford. I can tell you, though, that acquiring some new ones is at the top of my things to do list.
Thanks for all of the advice on how to set them up and the patient explanations of what they can do. The service you guys provide in general is just terrific, and this product has totally transformed my listening experience: wow! Darren, you were right.
Acoustic Systems Resonators - Wally L. - January, 2007
My resonators arrived last Wednesday evening. I immediately installed them according to the diagrams in the instructions. I was listening at fairly moderate volume, and I thought the sonic change was subtle at best. But wait. I remembered that one of the reviews said the resonators take a while to start working. Well, being an impatient kind of guy, I decided to boost the volume to see if that would "wake up" the resonators. Wow, there was immediate and significant improvement! Fuller sound, tighter bass, extended highs. And curiously, there was more bass volume than I had ever had.. Well I've read all of the audio forum naysayers, so I thought it might be "psychoacoustics". So I invited my neighbor for a drink, and told him nothing about any change to my system. I made sure I was playing some of his favorite music. Before I finished pouring his first drink, he got a funny look on his face and said "What happened here? This sounds a lot better than I've heard here before!" Since he didn't know anything about what I had done, I thought that was pretty good confirmation of what I was hearing.
During the course of the next few days I experimented with different placement of the resonators. Bonnie, I recalled that you said something about Franck moving the resonators to change the focus of the sonic image. Well, that has always been one of my issues with my very open listening room - which I thought I had addressed through increased toe-in. Maintaining the vertical orientation of the three resonators, I moved them four times horizontally before I got it dialed in. And when I did, it was amazing! I now have a balanced, and larger, image that I would not have thought possible with my room and system. Please note that I am running a Naim CD5 player that is great at pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT), but weak at imaging.
I am extremely happy with the first three resonators, and I'm only at step 2 of Franck's plan. I plan to order more soon.
